Can we culture Palmaria palmata in land-based RAS discharge water – and what opportunities are there in Norway?

Join us for an exciting webinar where Phil James, senior scientist at Nofima, will present findings from a series of trials investigating the growth potential of Palmaria palmata in discharge water from land-based salmon RAS systems. The trials include a pretrial; a trial comparing the effect of varying percentages of discharge water; and a trial comparing the effect of varying salinities. The nutrient consumption of P. palmata will be discussed in comparison to the nutrient levels found in RAS systems and finally a brief comparison will be made between the growth of P. palmata held at sea compared to land-based P. palmata.

Phil James works in the Production Biology department at Nofima’s AKVA Division in Tromsø, focusing on low trophic aquaculture species, including red and brown seaweeds.
